Overview of SpeakZone Services
Speak Zone connects English learners with fluent English-speaking volunteers around the world for free, one-on-one online conversation sessions. These meetings are held over Zoom and are designed to help learners improve their spoken English in a supportive, friendly environment. Some participants may be under the age of 18, and their safety is a top priority for us.
Our Commitment to Child Safety
Speak Zone works with learners of all ages, including minors, and we are fully committed to creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for everyone. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the privacy and well-being of young participants. All tutors, staff, and volunteers are expected to follow Speak Zone’s policies on professional conduct, boundaries, and communication, especially when working with children or teens.
Policies and Procedures
Parental Consent
Any student under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate in Speak Zone sessions. We may require written or verbal confirmation. Parents are welcome to reach out at any time if they have concerns or questions about their child’s experience with our program.
Volunteer Screening
All volunteers must complete an application form and indicate whether they are 18 or older. Volunteers who are 18+ and are matched with minors may be asked to undergo additional screening or provide references. We reserve the right to deny or end participation if safety standards are not met.
Safe Matching and Communication
We carefully consider time zones, availability, preferences, and age when pairing tutors with learners. While we aim to create comfortable peer-like pairings, adults matched with minors must maintain a professional tone and avoid sharing personal or inappropriate content. Communication outside of Zoom sessions must happen through official Speak Zone channels unless otherwise approved.
Video Sessions
Speak Zone sessions take place on Zoom. For learners under 18, we recommend that a parent or guardian be aware of the meeting time and space. All sessions should be held in a public or quiet shared area, not in private bedrooms, and with the camera on when possible.
Reporting Concerns
If a parent, student, or volunteer ever feels uncomfortable or witnesses inappropriate behavior, they should contact us immediately at info@speakzone.com. We are committed to responding quickly and taking all reports seriously. Anyone found violating our child safety policies may be removed from the program.
